| Dear Chapter
Members,
The year is over now and it is time
to reflect on what your board did
for you during the 2005-2006 ASID
fiscal year.
Financial Accomplishments
On October 1, 2006, the year began with $82,000 in the bank and a $150,000
budget for the 2005-2006 year. After paying all the bills through the
end of September, our ending bank balance is: $102,450.91.
This represents an increase of $20,450.91
or 25%. The original budget for this
year planned on an increase of only
$7,000 overall. I applaud the board
for the excellent management of our
funds. Great Job! The 2006 House
Tour of last weekend alone represented
50% of this increase in funds.
As in the incoming president’s
budget only calls for $95,000 to
be spent next year, the money in
the bank covers the upcoming administration’s
year and then some.
Highlights of the year
The partnership between Gentry Magazine and the California Peninsula
Chapter of ASID has been re-established.
Gentry’s sponsorship of the
Design Awards Competition and Gala
brought elegance and professionalism
to the forefront. With over 225 in
attendance, it was the largest event
of its kind for our chapter in recent
memory.
Gentry’s sponsorship of the
2006 Los Altos and Los Altos Hills
House Tour made it a huge success.
The homes designed by Jorie Clark,
Anderson-Brule, McDonald and Moore,
Kim Kaneshiro and Carol Lippert were
a great showcase to the value of
the professional designer. Thanks
to each of you and your clients for
showing the Peninsula what ASID designers
can do.
It is with great pleasure that I
can announce that Gentry is scheduled
to continue their fantastic support
of our chapter again this coming
year.
The Los Altos and Los Altos Hills
house tour was a huge success. Having
been dormant for
the past few years, it was somewhat like starting over. For the first
time ever, we added online ticketing which accounted for 20% of the entire
ticket sales. From the online provider’s past experience, the first
year for online ticketing sales results in a low volume of sales in the
range
of 2 to 5%. So, we beat the odds. If we are able to provide a yearly
house tour and get the public expectation established, this is expected
to grow significantly year after year.

Infrastructure
We established basic infrastructure needs:
|
| • |
a
Chapter Administrator in the office
on a part time basis (Jane Higo
will fill this role) |
| • |
DSL in the office
(you would not believe what it
took to accomplish this… it
was no easy feat) |
| • |
the annual New
Member Tea was re-instated (thanks
to Maria Murphy Lonergan) |
| • |
bonds with our
IP members have been strengthened
(look for even better relationships
for the upcoming year) |
| • |
the Stars of
Design program brought noted speakers
Fu Tung Cheng and Barbara Sallick
to our chapter along with a romp
in Woodside to see the acres of
art at Runnymede |
| • |
the new chapter
web site now reflects the current
brand initiative |
| • |
referrals from
our web site's "find a designer" form |
|
Although there are many areas yet to be addressed, the programs for next
year are looking fantastic. Some of the events that did not fit into
this year’s schedule will be brought to you next year such as the
Meet the Press event.
My hope is that we continue strengthening the promotion of ASID
and our members. With Joe’s excellent promotion skills,
I am looking forward to the implementation of promotion of our
members. It should be an outstanding year starting with a strong
financial foundation.
The board is responsible for all of this. The membership of
the board remained steady throughout the year in spite of the
increased workload given only 7 board members total as mandated
by National.
Please join me one more time in recognizing our 2005-2006 Board
for their wonderful achievements:

link to National. She has also maintained
our online financial information and
provided much needed checks and balances.
Thank you once again for the opportunity
to be your chapter President.
